Anime, usually defined as Japanese animation, is a wide source of many songs used in Nico Nico Douga medleys.

What is anime?

In Japanese terms, anime (アニメ) means any kind of animation in general, but in the West, it is widely used as a synonym specifically for Japanese animation. Even though it hasn't been long since its introduction to the western world along with manga, anime has gained considerable popularity partially due to its exotic art style. Some of the most well-known titles in the West are Pokémon, Dragon Ball and Naruto.

Some of the famous ones

A brief list of some popular anime series on Nico Nico Douga and some of their songs:

  • The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya: The "everybody's favorite anime", this series is famous for its huge fanbase and dance used for the first season's ending song, Hare Hare Yukai. This anime is about the daily life of the SOS Brigade, created by school girl Haruhi Suzumiya for searching time travelers, aliens and espers and to "have fun with them". Story is told from the perspective of Kyon, the main male character of the series, who meets the exact above types of people, and finds out that Haruhi has powers to warp reality without her own knowledge.
