Futae no Kiwami, ah!
Futae no Kiwami, ah! (argot: KYM) is a Japanese internet subculture based on the 1996 Rurouni Kenshin anime.
Overview
It all started with the video "Rurouni Kenshin English version" posted on April 2, 2007. The English dubbing of the characters in the hit anime "Rurouni Kenshin" was so different from the Japanese version, and the forced pronunciation of proper nouns in the anime, that it was extremely uncomfortable and shocked the viewers.
On September 4, 2007, a video called "Validation of 'Futae no Kiwami, ah' in various countries" was posted in which the same scene is dubbed in English, Spanish, Portuguese, South American Portuguese, and Japanese versions of Rurouni Kenshin.
Simultaneous Deletion
However, from the end of March to the beginning of April 2008, an unidentified person or group claiming to be the "rights holder" deleted Validation videos and MAD videos en masse, and many Kiwami videos disappeared from Nico Nico Douga.
This mass deletion led to a sharp decline in the total number of videos and postings of Futae no Kiwami MADs, and the great boom in the popularity of MADs ended. Today, many Nico Douga users do not know about the time when Futae no Kiwami neta was popular from 2007 to 2008, and this story is becoming a thing for old users who are nostalgic for those days.
Incidentally, the person responsible for deleting the video from the rights holder is "Fuji Television Network, Inc.".
(Still Futae no Kiwami is) not over yet!
After the simultaneous deletion of all videos by the rights holders, under the theory that "as long as the Fuji TV images are not used as is, it's okay," videos of Futae no Kiwami, including the masterpieces from the boom period, were either mosaic censored or uploaded as hand-drawn MADs.
In addition, Futae no Kiwami, ah! related videos are tagged with "KYM" to avoid direct expression.
Since none of the hand-drawn MADs survived without being erased, the theory and hope that Futae no Kiwami videos would not be deleted as long as they were composed entirely of hand-drawn reproductions of images is the basis for the mysterious efforts of many hand-drawing artisans, which have led to Validation videos and reproductions of famous scenes. The videos and reproductions of famous scenes have been progressing.
Today, almost all of the newly posted Futae no Kiwami MAD videos are composed of hand-drawn reproductions by volunteer hand-drawing artisans.
Character List
- Sagara Sanosuke
- A former member of the Sekihō Army. In the context of the Futae no Kiwami, ah! meme, Sagara Sanosuke is the main protagonist of the meme. Learns the Futae no Kiwami from Yūkyūzan Anji, a member of the Jūppongatana. Sagara Sanosuke charges at Shishio Makoto and punches him in the face with the technique. In the Media Blasters dub of Rurouni Kenshin in episode 59, Sagara Sanosuke says, "Futae no Kiwami, ah!"; among other soramimi in the Kyoto Arc. Including, sounding like a stock car, mentioning White Base from Gundam and Mega Man, is a "no-pan stylist", likes the Goblin Bat.
- Himura Kenshin
- A former legendary assassin known as Hitokiri Battōsai. Himura Kenshin is the deuteragonist in the Futae no Kiwami, ah! meme. Gets defeated by the Guren Kaina by Shishio Makoto, which temporarily knocks out Himura Kenshin. Himura Kenshin is revived also while Shinomori Aoshi stalls for time. Soramimi regarding Himura Kenshin involves revealing his privates, apologizing for it, mentioning curry, and misheard variants of the Hiten Mitsurugi-ryū, an ancient kenjutsu from the Sengoku Jida.
- Saitō Hajime
- The former third squad captain of the Shinsengumi, a pro-shogunate force. Uses only four of the Gatotsu methods against Shishio Makoto only for it to hit his concealed Hachigane and being wounded that delayed the ultimate variation, the Gatotsu Zero Shiki, enough for Shishio Makoto to counteract with another Guren Kaina.
- Shinomori Aoshi
- The genius young leader of the Oniwabanshū onmitsu. Stalls for time for Himura Kenshin after beginning to fight Shishio Makoto. Soramimi involves lemons, privates, the Gokō Jūji (misheard for privates and also 10:00) technique, another season question for Death Note, and the Kaiten Kenbu Rokuren (misheard for the Heisei era). When using those techniques, Shishio Makoto takes advantage of the wounded Shinomori Aoshi.
- Shishio Makoto
- The main antagonist of Futae no Kiwami, ah! Likes Phi, abalone steak, stole Saitō Hajime's money, tells him "You done?", uses rape powder, tried to sell his game, Secret Sword II, only for it to not sell, likes the Reiwa era, and punches Sagara Sanosuke in the gut twice.
- Komagata Yumi
- Lover of Shishio Makoto. Sounds like Nobita from Doraemon.
- Sadojima Hōji
- Singer, giant snake lover, tells Shishio that he got mail, likes Gundam, likes vegetables, asks for the JoJo's Bizarre Adventure character, DIO, likes Ashita no Nadja, and wanted a FOMA card. Is against Futae no Kiwami, or as he says, that right now there's an Anti-Futae no Kiwami sentiment.
Songs used in Nico Nico Douga medleys
- The Last Wolf Suite ~Shishio Makoto no Kumikyoku~ - A song that is sometimes used as an OtoMAD instrument.
