What is Touhou Project?

Touhou Project (東方Project) is a series of 2D vertically-scrolling danmaku shooting games. First five games in the Touhou series were made for Japanese PC-98 computers by Amusement Makers. And after 4 years of hiatus, the series was continued to Windows computers by it's current developer, Team Shanghai Alice. It is said to be run by only one man, a former Amusement Makers member, who calls himself ZUN. He has been credited for designing, programming, script writing and composing in all of the Touhou games to date. He is said to be rather reclusive, so not much is known about him...

Touhou Project on Nico Nico Douga

It is said that the first Touhou video that achieved considerable fame on Nico Nico Douga was the music video for IOSYS' Marisa Stole The Precious Thing. After that, more Touhou videos started slowly to surface. Nico Nico users started to upload vocalized BGMs, parodies and other stuff like that on Nico Nico Douga. Nowadays, Touhou Project's fame is more based on the fan-made songs, videos, comics and artwork, rather than on the original games. This is the most common reason why newcomers first think Touhou Project as some kind of anime

Touhou Project in Nico Nico Medleys

Touhou songs have been present since the first Nico Nico Medley (Chuudoku no Kata e Okuru Ikkyoku). Marisa Stole The Precious Thing has been one of the most used songs on Nico Nico Medleys to date. Other pretty often used songs are Kanbu de Tomatte Sugu Tokete ~ Kyouki no Udongein, Help Me, Erinnnnnn!!, U.N. Owen was Her? and Kero ⑨ Destiny

  - Due to it's romaji translation (ナイト・オブ・ナイツ -> Naito obu Naitsu), there's a constant discussion about whether the correct title is Night of Nights or Night of Knights, since they're both spelled the same way
