- "Lose Yourself" is a song by the American rap artist Eminem, released as the first single from the soundtrack to his movie 8 Mile.
- Eminem says that Lose Yourself was written on set and even during breaks during the filming of 8 Mile. Taryn Manning (actor of Eminem's ex-girlfriend "Janeane" in the movie) said in an interview with MTV, that during the filming of the movie, at any downtime given, Eminem was writing lyrics to the song and that "you could just see him formulating stuff in his head."
- Released on October 28th, 2002, it was written and produced by Eminem himself, along with Jeff Bass, one half of the production duo Bass Brothers. The song was largely written during the filming of 8 Mile, as it is loosely written from the viewpoint of the character of Jimmy "B-Rabbit" Smith, Jr. -- portrayed by Eminem himself.
- The song was critically acclaimed, earning Eminem five Grammy nominations at the 2004 46th Grammy Awards and the Academy Award for "Best Original Song" in 2002, making it the first ever rap song to have received this much praise.
- In 2004, it was one of only three hip-hop songs from the 21st century to have been included on Rolling Stone's list of the "500 Greatest Songs of All Time," and was also the highest ranking at number 166.
Relevance on Niconico
- The first popular video on Niconico that was about Eminem was by the name of "Eminem Will Tell You What's Up 'Bout Wagnaria 【WORKING'!!】," a mashup of "COOLISH WALK" (the opening theme to the anime "WORKING'!!") and "Without Me," another song by Eminem, which garnered over 375,000 views as of July 29th, 2014.
Later on, a series was made called the "Eminem Will Tell You What's Up Series" based on the rap battle scene from 8 Mile, which all started with a video called "Eminem Disrespectin' All The Utaites," which is the rap battle scene, but subtitled to make it look like Eminem is better than famous Utaites on Niconico, like 96neko, Soraru, Itou Kashitarou, Reol, and more.
Fortunately, the video hasn't been taken down for slandering these notable names, but has been taken to account as just a joke and fun times. Maybe in response to all the tweets and such about how people think their voices are better than the Utaite's voices.
Luckily, the Eminem Will Tell You What's Up Series, Lose Yourself, and Eminem respectively has still been going relevant as on February 16th, 2013, a video called "Eminem Will Tell You What's Up 'Bout Super Street Fighter IV," was uploaded and has garnered over 86,700 views. It was also the main representative for Lose Yourself being selected in the main set list for Asaoka Hieton's 2525/2013.
- In the case of Niconico medleys, ever since Asaoka Hieton put Lose Yourself in the set list of 2525/2013, the song has been coming up in recent medleys, and has been (as of now) one of the many songs to come into the forefront for International-centric sources on Niconico.
